Keeping your children safe from the more disreputable aspects of the internet has always been a major concern for parents and authorities alike. With the advent of major social networking sites and forums, where moderation of content is done at the bare minimum, if at all, children are becoming exposed to more and more content, which could be considered to have adverse effects on their development.

Children are not protected by any rules that govern what they may and may not see on these websites, everyone is free to upload whatever they like for public viewing without much consequence. If only there was a way to limit their exposure to images and other media which may be inappropriate to their age group.

As possible as this might be, it seems moderators are apathetic to implement even the most basic of safeguards. Leaving parents and the authorities with the responsibility of monitoring the internet usage of children.

Perhaps if we as parents and people in positions of authority would band together to attempt to impose  restrictions on delinquent sites, we can accelerate this process and move towards an internet which remains as free as it is yet safer for our children.
